Deuteronomy Chapter 27: Twelve Tribes Instructed About Twelve Curses Promised By God!
The book of Deuteronomy chapter 27
tells about Jehovah God's Twelve Curses that are to come upon God's Name People, the nation of Israel, if they are not careful to obey God's Commandments, given to them thru Moses, God's Prophet.
We see in this bible account, Deuteronomy 27th chapter
, Moses and the elders now instruct the people on their first act of worship when they cross the Jordan. They were to take some large stones, coat them with plaster
so that they could write all the words of the law on them and set them up on top of Mount Ebal
. They were also to build an altar of fieldstones on which they were not to use iron tools and on this altar they were to offer burnt offerings and fellowship offerings, eating and rejoicing before Jehovah.
The tribes were to be divided into two groups, six tribes would stand on Mount Gerizim
to pronounce the blessings and six would stand on Mount Ebal
to pronounce the curses. The Levites would recite the curses and the people would say "AMEN
" ... yes, they were to say "amen," to each curse pronounced. No doubt, in doing this, Jehovah was impressing upon the entire nation, that's ALL TWELVE TRIBES
, exactly what would happen to this people, if they decided later to become disobedient to Jehovah's Laws at any time, yes, with no exceptions!
There are twelve curses to be pronounced.
They are: Cursed is the man who
1) sets up an idol in secret,
2) dishonors his parents,
3) moves his neighbors boundary marker,
4) leads the blind astray on the road,
5) withholds justice from the alien, the widow, the fatherless,
6) sleeps with his father’s wife dishonoring his father’s bed, 7) has sexual relations with any animal,
8) who sleeps with his sister,
9) who sleeps with his mother-in-law,
10) who kills his neighbor secretly,
11) who accepts a bribe to kill an innocent person, and
12) who does not uphold the words of this law by carrying them out.
Upon investigation we find, this Last Curse
mentioned is a most unique one, one that proves to be all encompassing
, since it summates the situation for the Israelites and specifically shows the one who does not UPHOLD THE WORDS OF GOD'S LAW
, whatever that law is, will indeed fall into a CURSED CONDITION
before Jehovah, with no exceptions! In other words, disobedience on the part of God's Name people, is always met with a "cursed" condition upon Jehovah's People, those who willingly and knowingly, sin against their heavenly God and Father, Jehovah, by willingly and unrepentantly, breaking His Law.
The Torah: A Modern Commentary
, page 1516, has this to say regarding these curses spoken of in Deuteronomy 27th chapter. It states:
“It is likely that these reprehensible actions were chosen because they would generally be committed in secret and remain unpunished
by human courts. The people assumed collective responsibility for such acts, of which the first and last concern a person’s relationship with God and the other with the purity of the family and with moral behavior in various respects.”
Yes, "secret sins," are to be given special attention
, when considering Deuteronomy 27th chapter, where these Twelve Curses were pronounced upon these Covenanted People, who 'carry God's Name upon themselves.' -- See Numbers 6:27: Deut. 28:10; 2 Chron. 7:14; Daniel 9:19; Jeremiah 25:29.
"Secret sins," like those committed by the WTBTS and its Governing Body, with the secret 10-year Liason
with the United Nations as NGO Associates with the DPI of the UN ... yes, spiritual adultery according to the WTBTS' own definition, in fact, as shown in the June 1st, 1991 Watchtower magazine. -- See James 4:4
Please see below links that address this alarming situation affecting God's Name People today, namely, Jehovah's Witnesses:
...as well as this link which features the actual 1991 Watchtower
magazine study article that condemns any religious organization who expressly becomes an NGO Supporter of the United Nations:
Yes, those kind of "secret sins," that Deuteronomy 27th chapter
condemns, secret sins which will surely bring God's Curse, upon those covenanted name people of His today, those who carry His Name upon themselves, and who clearly refuse "TO UPHOLD HIS LAW," yes, those would defy Jehovah's Laws and say, "its no big deal."
Think about it.
